Disappointing effort with bat for Bollington

- TOM HORSFIELD

BOLLINGTON made the short journey to Stockport for this week’s clash and were looking to carry on their form from the previous week’s performance.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field first, Ward and Dickinson struck within successive overs to have the hosts struggling at 7-2.

Stockport steadily rebuilt as Facer and Van Eeden keeping the scorers ticking over.

Ward (2-34) removed Facer for 28 caught in the deep by an excellent catch from James Heathcote, but Stockport continued to frustrate the visitors by putting on handy partnerships between wickets.

Horsfield (3-46) removed Van Eeden with the scores at 90-4 before taking his second wicket.

Dickinson (3-43) and Horsfield bowled well at the end to restrict the hosts to 171 of their 50 overs.

Bollington’s response was somewhat disappointing – only Longhorn adding a meaningful contribution for the first three wickets.

Yaksender and Longhorn looked steady before Longhorn departed for 22.

Yaksender continued to show his good form bring up his half century but Stockport’s tight bowling spell saw him running out of partners at the opposing end.

With just eight runs required with one wicket remaining Porter removed Henshall to give the hosts the victory.

Yaksender with a brilliant 78 not out just not quite enough to carry the visitors home.

Bollington welcome Sale to the recreation ground this weekend.
