Kennedy joins old boss at Shrews
JOHN Askey returned to former club Macclesfield this week – to sign Kieran Kennedy and take him to Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee.
Askey was keen to bolster his defence at Shrewsbury, and he has done so with the signing of Kennedy, who was a key part of the Macc side that won the National League title during the latest campaign.
The Shrewsbury manager is glad to be working with the defender once again, and he believes that Kennedy can kick on.
“It took us about six months to get Kieran properly fit because he had been out ill for six months, but once he was fit he was a completely different player who has got a lot of ability,” said Askey. “He’s big and strong, he’s quick and I think he’s someone who could do well. I think it’s just circumstances that stopped him pushing on before.
“He’s very comfortable on the ball but he can be aggressive as well and he’s decent in the air. I think he can be a very good player for us.
“His main position is centre back, but he can play right or left but on occasions he can step into midfield. The strength of the team last season was at the back and we didn’t concede many goals.
“It’s important we keep those players and Kieran coming in gives us another option if we need it.”
