Spring Meet trophy win for Maureen

THERE was a fine attendance of 40 ladies who attended a most enjoyable 57th Annual Dinner for Macclesfie­ld Golf Club ladies

They at last, after a long, hard winter, had had some fine weather for the official start of the season playing their Spring Meeting which was a Stableford over 11 holes.

Congratula­tions were given to the competitio­n winner, 28-handicappe­r Maureen Routley with 23 points.

Next in was Sue Orwin with 21 points and completing the leader board in third place on a card play-off from Nancy Barkworth and Jill Hunter-Blench was Chris Hickmott with 20 points.

Macc’s men played a singles Stableford and Nigel O’Brien led in with 46 points from Garry Tomlinson 44 and Paul Sayer and Koshua Williamson, both 42.

The H Wood Trophy at Avro was won by Peter Meadowcrof­t with 68, a massive seven shots better than Stephen Callaghan and Michael Thornber.

He then made it a double by winning the Away Day at Marple with 39 points, three more than Bob Collins.

A Midweek Stableford at Avro saw Neil Flood in charge with 31 points, one more than Derek Ellershaw, Philip Oakes and Kevin Moore.

Peter Walker posted a neat 68 to win the Avro Vice Captain’s Trophy, two less than Peter Roles and Paul Johnson.

Davenport’s men played a three division medal for the Bill Jones Trophy and topping the divisions were Fran Kirk after a cpo on 66 with Mark Bryning, Roger Shaw 64 and Tony Lee 66.

Davenport ladies played the Sheila Hill Memorial Stableford and topping the divisions were Luisa Bryceland 41 points, Amanda Jennings 40 and Michele Leigh after a cpo on 36 with Helen Kay.

Alderley Edge’s men played a medal for the Vice President’s Bowl and Gordon Stewart was the proud winner with a nett 63, three shots clear of Mark Simpkins and Aled Jones.

Edge’s ladies played a Bridgeston­e medal and in-form Karen Pennington was first past the post with 73 from Olwen Davies 74, Julie Ricketts 75 and Clair Roberts 77.

A midweek Stableford at Mottram Hall was won by George McClean with 37 points, two more than Nigel Woods and Laurence Dews.

The June medal at Shrigley Hall had division one won by Andy Bethel with 68 from Edwin Green 70 and in division two the star man was Tom Morgan with 64, three less than Andrew Brereton and Alex Wood.

Styal’s men were in action over 36 holes for the club championsh­ip and in round one Ryan Owen set the pace with 72 from soccer legend Rick Worsley 74, Ryan Nevins 75 and Jack Muir 77.

Round two saw Giovannie Porro led in with 69 from Joe Bradshaw 69 and it was enough to see him crowned as champion with a 137 total ahead of Rick Worsley 140 and Arthur Jowle, Dennis Chester, Joe Bradshaw and Ryan Owen all 142.

It was close in a seniors medal at Styal with David Jones winning a cpo on 65 from Brian Donohue, two less than Bob Skilling.

A 9-hole England Golf Champions Stableford at Styal was won by Khalil Musa with 23 points from Kevin Lee after a cpo and Harry Craven 21.

The latest round of the Ladies Summer Cup at Styal was led in by Eileen Elliott with 16 points, two more than Diana Hutchinson.
