Kerridge defy rain to remain top

- JOHN GRAYSTON

KERRIDGE travelled to Mellor CC on Saturday 16th with a poor weather forecast hoping to get a game completed.

Mellor won the toss and elected to bowl in what looked to be perfect swing bowling conditions and a pitch with plenty of grass on it.

Mellor struck early taking advantage of some uneven bounce dismissing both openers without scoring and left Kerridge faced with an ominous scorecard of 0 for 2.

The next four batsmen then all made contributions to help Kerridge recover to a respectable target. Steven Regan scored a fluent 28 before a 65 run partnership between Luke Wild who cleared the ropes on several occasions (46) and John Grayston (31). Adam Banks also scored 31 with support from the lower order, Kerridge finished on 156 all out.

Mellor took to the field and were restricted to 14 for 2 after 10 overs of tight bowling with Adam Banks and Tom Gaskell taking a wicket each before thunder and lightning struck and torrential rain meant play was suspended.

After half an hour the rain had cleared and play resumed.

Alex Grimes was introduced to the attack and continued his good form taking another five wicket haul with 35-5 to reduce Mellor to 90 all out.

The win keeps Kerridge top of the league, they host Appleton next Saturday with a mid week cup trip to Disley.
