Blissett snubbed rivals to sign for Macc

MACCLESFIELD Town striker Nathan Blissett has revealed he turned down offers from elsewhere in order to sign for the club.

Blissett has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Silkmen, keeping him at the Moss Rose until the summer of 2020.

He was impressive for Macc after spending the second half of the season at the club on loan from Plymouth Argyle, and he’s happy to be back on a permanent basis.

“I’m delighted and relieved. I’m glad it’s finally over the line and now I’m looking forward to pre-season and getting going,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’ve had other offers, but my main thing was to be playing league football and testing myself, so I’m happy to be doing that here.

“The next chapter is to prove ourselves in League Two. There are some big teams there but with the squad we have here hopefully we’ll be able to do well in the league and get some good results.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club. We’re a close knit group so it bodes well for the future. I thought I did well last season and have warranted being here again.

“I want to get a good pre-season under my belt and then get into the next campaign. We’ve got some good friendlies coming up so once they’re out the way then we can focus on the season.”

There have been a few changes since Blissett’s last appearance for the club, most notably the departure of manager John Askey to take charge at Shrewsbury Town. Blissett admits that the exit was a surprise, but he still has faith in the current squad.

“It was a shock for everyone, but it is what it is. I think we have around nine players tied down from last season, so if we can add to that quality then I can only see good things,” he said.

“I’ve had a few games in League Two and League One so I know what it takes to be successful in that league and I can’t wait to get started.”
