Connections key for new gaffer Yates

- SHELDAN KEAY

MARK Yates says being able to bring in Danny Whitaker and Neil Howarth as his assistants will be a huge boost for him in his new role as manager.

In one of his first decisions since becoming the club’s new boss last week, Yates has decided to name two jointassistant managers, with Whitaker and Howarth the men put in place.

Yates is happy to have them both alongside him, and is confident that the three of them can work well together and have a triumphant season at the Moss Rose.

““I’m delighted to be here, and I’m delighted to have got Danny and Neil on board,” Yates told the club’s official website.

“It was massive for me to get Danny and Neil on board. Neil and I have worked together for nine years at previous clubs and played together so I wanted to bring him in, plus the fact he’s a Macc legend.

“He’s brilliant he’s really good for me, we know how each other work and the Macc connections is a real positive to go on top of that.

“Danny was outstanding last season. The chairman asked me if bringing him in was something I’d consider, and I was delighted at that. The more people that you’ve got connected with the club and the more people the supporters can really relate to the better!

“We’ve sat down as staff over the last week and we’re going to carry that on and establish what we need to do and make sure we are ready and are competitive with a physical, capable group of footballers that want to play decent football and be as good as we can.

“We had to hold back a little, to make sure everything was done correctly but it’s exciting times.

“The club is on a high, it’s a club with momentum and we want to make sure we are starting right with recruitment and everything we do make the training ground as good as it can be.

“That’s what we want, to be the best we can be, to be as competitive as we can and build on the success that’s happened over the previous few years.

“It’s a little bit different coming into a club that have just won the league, but it’s the best way to be. There’s still lots to be done but going into League Two from the national league, it’s a step up.

“We’ve lost some players whether its willingly or they’ve gone to other clubs but now it’s about assessing the players we have and quickly assembling a recruitment drive that we think is going to work for the club and enhance the group we’ve got.”

‘The more people the supporters can relate to the better!’
