Care home rated ‘one of UK’s worst’
ACARE home threatened with closure has been rated among the worst in the country.
Lyme Green Hall, in Macclesfield, is among the 14 lowest performing, according to a report by a solicitor firm.
Hudgell Solicitors examined the Care Quality Commissions ( CQC) inspection reports of 250 care homes rated inadequate.
It found 14 were inadequate in all five areas rated, which are safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led, over the past 12 months.
This comes after the home was rated as ‘inadequate’ following two damning reports in March and June this year.
Inspectors were forced to return to the care home, which looks after vulnerable people with dementia and mental illnesses, following the first visit in October 2017, after being notified of an incident where a resident ‘sus- tained a serious injury’.
The CQC also discovered that there had been 16 ‘aggressive behaviour’ incidents recorded by staff since August 2017, yet there was ‘ no evidence that any of these incidences had been analysed or risk assessed’.
The findings in the report make it clear that aggressive behaviour incident all involve residents, not staff.
Hilda Gaddum, councillor for Sutton, said she was concerned for the patients and their families.
She said: “For me the terribly sad part of this is the human factor. Dementia is enormously serious and can shorten lives and distress to their families.
“It is very shocking and sad that the owners haven’t managed to turn it around by now.”
Christopher Morse, managing director of Pendlebury Care Homes, which runs the home, said the information is out of date and changes gave been made.
He said: “The operational management of Lyme Green Hall is now overseen by a well-established care home management company which separately operate two care homes that CQC have rated as good in status in all five domains.
“Earlier this year a new full-time manager was employed at Lyme Green Hall.
We continue to work positively and cooperatively with both the CQC and Cheshire East to implement an agreed action plan for improvement, to help ensure that we provide safe and dignified care to all our residents
“We especially thank our staff for their hard work and support in the face of continual press negativity, which has caused them unwarranted and underserved anxiety.”
