TRIBUTES to war veteran ‘Tony’ who has passed away aged 96. Gustav Charles Antoine has died aged 96 (Express, July 4)

Emily Parrish I remember Tony coming into Tesco Hibel Road and collecting for the British Legion. Such a lovely friendly chap who liked to chat everyone.

Sonya Whittaker Awwwww Tony lived near me and we always spoke when we saw each other. He really was a lovely man. RIP Tony xxxx

Dee Daniels Tony was a lovely gent, funny, kind and generous. I will miss him. God bless my friend.

Stu N Nat Lovely man.

THOUSANDS flock to Macclesfield’s inaugural Food Festival. (Express, July 4)

Gemma Sanders Yes but why not do it seasonal ones (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and more events. [The] sense of community is lovely and much needed.

Kath Dicks It was lovely and brought the town alive. We need more events like it.

Sue Gill It was brilliant - such a great atmosphere!

Mike Deery Pity it wasn’t better advertised.

Lesley-anne Davies Just what I was thinking.

We were away but the only time I knew about it was a tiny poster on the railings opposite the Flowerpot on Congleton Road.

Mike Deery I saw something on Facebook after the event.

MACCLESFIELD play areas to get £100k revamp. The town council has announced the fund to be spent on improving facilities in play areas across Macclesfield (Express, July 4)

Laura Newport £100k on a park. what a waste. Just watch the chavvy kids rip it apart with graffiti and dog poo all over place.

Graham Brinkhurst That’s a distinct possibility, but some of that is down to today’s society and what part their parents play in their upbringing.

Steph Atkins As a teenager, I agree with you, you’ll get all chavs there.

Claire Atkins Ok so spend it on parks but also put a park warden into the budget!

Gillan Henshaw They would be better trying to save the Millbrook Unit!

9,642 fines issued for dropping cigarettes and 411 for all other waste dumping. Conservative councillor attacks the policy of ‘persecuting smokers’ as misguided saying the aim was to stop littering and fly-tipping (website, July 6)

Lizzi Hetherington Where are people actually suppose to put them out of interest? And what about people that leave their dog poo all over the town centre? Do people seen dropping other litter get followed and given fines too?

Marc Crowther Erm... The bin?

Lizzi Hetherington Erm....then it sets on fire. They should provide cigarette bins rather than just wanting to fine everyone.

Liz Langton What about giving fines to dog owners for not picking up their dog mess? Mayfield Avenue is awful! Just waiting for someone to let their dog do their business outside my gate.. they will be given a bag and told to pick it up!

Janet Beresford People who deposit chewing gum should be treated in this way. It must cost unnecessary mounts of money to remove from pavements in Britain.

Sue Whyatt All litter louts should be treated the same but I have to say that people who smoke tend to put their packets in the bin but don’t seem to regard the butts in the same way. Let’s clean up and ALL take responsibility. Politely challenge people who litter.

Conrad Rubin What makes me laugh is they put [the price of cigarettes up], you have to buy a 20 pack now at
