Green team on mission

-

MACC-TASTIC, Less Plastic is a joint venture by volunteers at the Barnaby Festival and the Treacle Market.

It was an awareness event held during the Barnaby Festival to promote simple and effective ways to help residents and businesses reduce the amount of single-use plastics, and in turn, reduce the amount of plastic which ends up in landfill, rivers and oceans.

Now the team behind the venture are appealing for more people to get involved. Lynne Jones, who collaborated with Tracy Kelly, David Mayers, Lynne Jones, Jane Munro and Jane Griffiths on the scheme, said: “The event was really successful. We had a great response on the day which was really good to see. Students from Tytherington School talked about their work to reduce single use plastic, and Anna Riordan did a plastic sculpture out of old plastic bottles.

“Now we want to see if people in Macclesfield are interested in creating a town-wide group to see whether Macclesfield can become a more sustainable town. We need people to get involved and become part of a wider conversation.”

She added: “There are lots of people out there doing what they can. What we want to do is bring them together to have a discussion about what we can do for Macclesfield as a town.
