MP gives children tour of Parliament

-

DOZENS of excited school children went of a special trip to see how the country is run.

Pupils from Puss Bank Primary School , in Macclesfield, paid a visit to Parliament recently, and were given a guided tour by the town’s MP David Rutley.

He met up with the children and spoke to them about what it means to be a member of Parliament and what he does.

The 32 youngsters from years three to six then got the chance to grill Macclesfield’s representative on a range of big issues, including the NHS and what happens in Parliament, during their own ‘Question Time’. During their visit the kids were given a private tour around the Palace of Westminster, including a visit to the chambers of the House of Commons and House of Lords.

They then stopped off at the purpose-built Parliamentary Education Centre, where they took part in a range of fun activities and learned about the process by which Bills are passed through Parliament to become law.

Speaking after the school’s visit, Mr Rutley said he was very impressed with the inquisitive children’s knowledge.

He said: “It was great to welcome pupils from Puss Bank School back to Parliament again, and to see how engaged they were with important local and national issues, as well as how our democracy works. I was very impressed by their thoughtful and considered questions.

“I hope to see yet more local schools visiting Parliament in the future.”

A group of 60 pupils from Fallibroome Academy also enjoyed a visit to the Houses of Parliament with Mr Rutley.
