Major first at Macclesfie­ld for Paul

IT was a memorable day for Paul Sutcliffe as he won his first-ever ‘major’ at Macclesfie­ld Golf Club taking the coveted Abraham Trophy.

Paul, handicap 22, posted a nett 63 to finish ahead of Chris Priestley 66 and Dave Tomlinson.

Jake Bowers had the best gross of 70.

Macc ladies played a Texas Scramble ant the hot trio with 72.8 were Myra Clark, Chris Hickmott and Joy Clements.

Next in with 73,8 were Kay Atkin, June Sumner and Val Fox with Two’s coming from Chris Hickmott, Val Fox and Jill Hunter-Blench.

It needed a cpo on 37 points to see John Kendrick into top spot in a midweek Stableford at Alderley Edge from Mark Walker with Simon Barber and Dan Feathersto­ne a point off the pace.

The Lady Captain’s Prize at Alderley Edge was won by Jo McGregor with 40 points from Yvonne Grundy 38 and Tracy Smith and Helen Edwards, both 35.

A Stableford for Davenport’s men was won by Michael Harris with 40 points and Anthony Round took second place after a cpo on 38 points with Anthony Dyke, Glynn Roe and Denis Hall.

Davenport ladies were also in Stableford action in round four of the Beswick qualifiers and Pat Brodie was first past the post with 38 points from Jane Hall 37 and Margaret Bruce and Gwyneth Fielding, both 36.

Paul Dunford led in Day Two of Five in the Challenge medal with 68 from Dom Swindells and Stuart Codling, both 70.

The Midsummer Cup at Shrigley Hall was won by Andrew Brereton with 39 points, two more than Peter Duffy and Niall Lynch.

A Wednesday Stableford at Styal needed a cpo on 36 points to see Rod Worne home from Bryan Ford, a point more than Alan Brooks and Mike Wright.

It also needed a cpo in a Styal Seniors Yellow Tee Stableford with David Melia getting the nod on 38 points from Peter Christie, two more than Kevin Lee and Roger Rowland.

A ladies Stableford at Styal was won in emphatic style by Judith Lacy with 36 points, four more than Claire Whitney and Enid Laverty.

A singles medalat Prestbury was close in division one with George Payne winning a cpo on 68 from John Kennerley, one less than Graham Keys and junior star Remy Miller who had the lowest gross of 69.

In division two Daniel Farrer was in the comfort zone after his 69 saw him four shots clear of Anthony McGuinness.

Prestbury ladies played for the ‘major’ Dora Hill Trophy and it was won by Elizabeth Dunckley with 69 from Jean Duncan 73, Lynne Dicken 74 and Nicky Markland and Joan Crouch, both 75.
