Howard’s innings sees Shrigley home

- GRAHAM HACKNEY

POTT Shrigley 1st XI elected to field when they won the toss at home to High Lane and wickets fell at regular intervals.

Matt BaquerizaJackson (3 for 20) again led the way and was backed up by Rich Caslaw (3 for 40) with the other bowlers picking up wickets and keeping the pressure on High Lane.

Only McCarthy (47) kept the innings together to help High Lane reach 116 all out.

Shrigley’s batsmen also struggled but Simon Howard’s 45 proved a match winning performance and with helpful runs from Alex Jackson, James Samarji and Jamie Hart it was enough to pick up the winning points at 119 for 7.

The seconds were away at Buxworth where the Pott openers had a great day, matching the weather.

Skipper Wilkie hit a fine 50 but Andy Tomenson took the honours with a superb attacking innings of 113 not out.

Tom Allerton also chipped in with 22.

The innings then quickly subsided to 223 for 9.

Buxworth were always behind the clock as Alex Hart took two early wickets then Vinny Allen took another couple to put Pott in the driving seat.

Dan Allerton and Henry Cocks picked up wickets and at 74 for 7 it all looked over but the next three batsmen managed to double the Buxworth total to 145 before Allen cleaned up the tail taking 4 for 32.
