“I am not saying that we are going to win the league and realistically there are clubs who have far more spending power than we have – but that really isn’t the be all and end all of being successful,” he said.

“It’s about recruiting the right players for the group and having the supporters right behind us.

“We need each and every supporter to keep believing – everyone did a brilliant job last season and it’s up to me, my players and my staff, together with the fans to all work together – in the good times and the bad.

“I want a positive team out there and one which will hopefully please all the fans who will give us their all once again.”

This Saturday’s first pre-season game of the summer at Ashton United kicks off at 3pm, and tickets are priced at £7 for adults, and £5 for over 65s, students and under 16s.

England’s World Cup quarter-final with Sweden will be shown live in Butch’s Bar on Saturday afternoon, with the whole nation willing Gareth Southgate’s men all the way in Russia.

The national side defeated Columbia last night, in what proved to be their first ever World Cup shoot-out victory and they now turn their attentions to Janne Andersson’s side at the weekend for a place in the semi-finals.

The match promises to be a captivating one, so why not come down to Butch’s and enjoy all the action with your fellow Silkmen fans.

The bar will be serving a range of beers, wines and sort drinks, with doors opening at 2pm.
