Smith targets speedy impact

- SHELDAN KEAY

NEW Macclesfield Town signing Harry Smith has set his sights on making an immediate impact for his new club.

The 23-year-old has joined the club on a oneyear deal, becoming Mark Yates’ latest signing at the Moss Rose.

Smith is looking forward to his new life at Macclesfield, and wants to hit the ground running straight away on the lcub’s return to the Football League.

“I’m delighted to get the deal done. It took a while since last week so I’m now glad to get it signed and I’m looking forward to meeting the lads,” he told the club’s official website.

“It developed last Thursday late in the evening and then I got a call over the weekend.

“After speaking to people close to me I knew it was the right decision moving forward.”

It has been an interesting career so far for Smith, and he has revealed in depth the footballing journey he has been on over the past few years.

“I was at Chelsea for a short period when I was young and then went to Gillingham.

“I went out of academy football and into non-league when I was 16, and then played there until I signed for Millwall a few years ago,” he said.

“I played a year there during their promotion season to the Championship and then last year spent the first half of the season on loan at Swindon.”

At 6 foot 5 inches, Smith is a tall forward known for his hold up play, but he thinks that he has a lot of attributes to offer to the team.

“As a striker, scoring goals is a big part of my game, but I feel I’m good in lots of areas and win a lot of headers.

“People look at me and think I’m just tall so stick the ball on my head, but I run in behind and have a bit of pace to offer too,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be here and now I’ll crack on and work as hard as possible to hopefully get myself in the team for the first game of the season.”
