Ashton get set for honour of Silkmen

-

MACCLESFIELD Town make the trip to Ashton United on Saturday, and Ashton manager Jody Banim admits it is a big honour for his side to be having a team like Macc head to Hurst Cross.

The Silkmen weren’t the only side to earn promotion last season, as Ashton also enjoyed success during the latest campaign.

They finished in second place, and then earned promotion back to the National League North after winning the Evo-Stik Premier play-offs.

Banim is looking forward to getting pre-season underway, and he has revealed what it means to his side to be facing a team like Macclesfield.

“It’s good for the club as it’s a big revenue generator during a part of the season where we have little revenue coming in,” said Banim.

“It’s good for the players too as they get to test themselves against Football League players, so it gives them a gauge of where they are fitness wise and where we are from a team perspective. I feel we have a good mix of players for pre-season that will put us in the right frame for August.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield have announced that general manager Rob Heys has left the club. In a short statement, they said: “Macclesfield Town Football Club regrets to announce that Rob Heys has made a decision to leave the club.

“We would like to sincerely thank Rob for all his hard work and dedication during his employment with us, and to wish him the very best in his future career.”
