Man on trial over sex assault claim
AMAN has appeared in court accused of indeassaulting a cently young girl.
Trevor Lancaster, 64, of Spinney Mead, Macclesfield, is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of historic sex attacks on the girl when she was under the age of 16. A jury heard claims that the alleged incidents took place more than 20 years ago when the defendant was an employee of AstraZeneca and lived at Square Street in Macclesfield.
Prosecuting Owen Edwards said after she suffered the alleged abuse she broke down and told her mother what she claims had happened to her.
He said: “At the culmination she burst into tears and told her mother about what had occurred and the police were called and the girl and Mr Lancaster were interviewed by officers.
“At that point no prosecution was brought. Around 20 years later in March 2017 the complainant was still deeply affected by what she said happened.
“What had happened to her had stayed with her over that time.
“She was able to provide more information in great detail [about] what had happened to her.”
He added: “When interviewed more recently by police Mr Lancaster [denied] that anything untoward ever happened.”
The jury were played the complainant’s origi- nal video interview from during which she detailed the defendant’s alleged indecent behaviour towards her.
A second video interview was then played from when the case was reopened last year.
In it the complainant said that ‘I didn’t know what he was doing to me. I didn’t understand what was happening’.
