New store brings major jobs boost
A NEW clothing store is set to create more than 30 new jobs in the town.
Clothing giant TK Maxx is due to open its doors in the revamped Grosvenor Centre on Thursday, August 13.
A spokesperson for TK Maxx said the new store will create 35 new jobs.
They said: “We’re delighted to be opening a brand new store in Macclesfield. We can’t wait for shoppers to walk through our doors and discover their own treasures.
“You never know what you might find! Pop by often, as there will always be exciting new designer finds and one-off gems for less every time you visit.”
The new store is due to open at 10am on Thursday, August 16.
It’s arrival is part of a £11m renovation of the Grosvenor Centre, which includes a new glass canopy built over the entrance to the mall on Castle Street, with more than 200 tonnes of steel used to build the structure.
The fashion retailer is set to take up around half the space in the extension, and and further announcements are set to me made about other retailers.
However the centre’s management have said a unit on Castle Street is likely to be a restaurant.
Councillor Janet Jackson told the Express she thinks it is fantastic news for the town, especially after news of the failed cinema scheme on Churchill Way.
The Macclesfield Central representative said: “It’s welcome news and I am pleased they are committed to the town. It is an anchor store for that development.
“The news that Ask had withdrawn from its scheme perhaps came as a shock to people, although I think things had gone quiet over the past few weeks.
“So this is great news for the town. We need those jobs and it will help to regenerate the town and I hope that will give confidence to other retailers and businesses to come to Macclesfield.
“We also need some more independent shops and units and I think the Grosvenor Centre development will be great for the town.”
