Thug jailed for beating partner

AMAN has been jailed for beating his girlfriend after a night out.

Liam Max Wilson, of Grimshaw Lane, Bollington, ‘kicked or punched’ the victim to the head while she was on the floor.

The 22-year-old had earlier been on a night out at the Society bar in Macclesfield with his partner on January 28 when they became separated, a court heard.

Wilson’s partner left the bar before returning later with a male friend.

Unable to find her partner, the victim went to the friend’s home and charged her phone in order to contact Wilson.

Stockport Magistrates Court heard that Wilson then went to the friend’s home in Macclesfield and became violent.

Prosecuting, Sonia Alford, said: “He became angry and got in her face and told her to ‘come out now’.

“He had clenched fists. She thought she was going to be assaulted.

“Her friend called the police.

“The defendant knew the police were en route and the victim refused to leave with him.

“He picked her up and took her downstairs.

“He grabbed her wrists then slammed her to the floor and kicked or punched her head while on the floor.”

The court also heard that when police arrested Wilson he became aggressive and threatened to split his own head open.

The victim read out a harrowing impact statement in court.

She said: “I don’t think I will ever forget the assault. It has affected my relationships.

“I have recurring nightmares about him and wake up feeling awful.”

Miss Alford said that when the attack happened Wilson was already under a restraining order for an incident involving the same victim in 2015.

However, it was heard that the victim began texting Wilson and the pair had recently rekindled their relationship before the incident.

The defence told the court that the couple had been unaware that the restraining order was still active.

Lesley Herman, defending, said that as the victim initiated contact she could not be classed as ‘vulnerable’ and that Wilson had been hit by her friend.

She said: “She contacted him to start some form of relationship.

“It is difficult to see how she can be seen as vulnerable.

“The complainant made a third statement to the police and said she wanted to amend parts that were incorrect.

“She said her friend picked up a walking stick and hit Liam to the back of the head.”

Wilson was found guilty of assault and obstructing an officer following a trial in his absence.

He also pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to failing to surrender to bail.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, handed a three-year restraining order and ordered to pay £890 costs.
