BIG PICTURE
MY DOUBTS WERE CORRECT
A COUPLE of years ago, in an empty shop in the precinct, there was a display showing the proposed new town centre development.
I asked then how was Macclesfield going to support a cinema complex with six screens?
It appears my doubts have been proved correct.
Does this mean the end of the whole project? David Booth Bond Street, Macclesfield.
MUST INVEST IN CENTRE
THE recent news that the town centre redevelopment plan had been scrapped comes as no surprise.
Cheshire East Council refuses to invest in Macclesfield.
Our town centre is in desperate need of investment, with empty shop units rife on the high street.
MP David Rutley and Cllr Ainsley Arnold promised £5 million investment for the town centre, but we’re yet to see this.
In fact, freedom of information requests show a different story.
In 2019/20, there is £0 planned investment in our town centre.
Instead of aiming to make Macclesfield a ‘plastic fantastic’ town, we should be investing in local business.
We are a town with such proud heritage, and as a market town, we should be looking to make the most of this.
Local entrepreneurs don’t feel confident to operate in the town centre because there’s no investment in it.
The Conservative executive of Cheshire East Council MUST invest in the town centre in order to get entrepreneurs to invest in it themselves. James Barber Moran Road, Macclesfield. Via Email
‘GOLDEN’ EXIT IS WRONG
I DO hope that the council will NOT give a “Golden hand shake” to Mike Suarez, due to him resigning from his post (Express, July 11).
He has cost the tax payer enough already, spending £1 million on his investigation.
Any other employee who is under investigation, (by any company) would not receive a “Golden hand shake”. Julie T Poynton
