Langley step back up to second place

-

LANGLEY 1st XI moved back to second place in Cheshire League 3 after a convincing home win against relegation threatened Aston.

Langley won the toss and elected to bat. They were soon in trouble as they were reduced to 26-3. Paully Morgan 10, Zak Howdle 14 and Andy Pawley 0 were all bowled.

Pat Horgan and Olly Wheelton then rebuilt the Innings, both striking the ball well, the duo added 84 in just 12 overs, before Horgan 48 was also bowled having faced just 28 balls.

Wheelton continued to play with great fluency and assisted by the more subdued Tom Potts they took the game away from Aston.

Wheelton eventually brought up a welldeserved maiden century off just 82 balls. Potts, 23, was caught late on. It was left to Wheelton, 118no – an innings which included 13 fours and 6 sixes, facing just 92 balls – and Matty Betteridge, 9no, to take Langley to 239-5 declared off just 36 overs.

Aston’s reply started well as the Draper brothers added 41, Dave, 27, was then bowled by Adam Cartwright. Macey, 8, soon followed caught behind. Sant and Rob Draper dug in and showed some fight, the total was on 89 when the former was caught behind for a solid 34.

Aston then fell away losing their last 5 wickets for just 54 runs

For Langley Cartwright 3-30 bowled a hostile spell, Berzins 3-32 and veteran Steve Whittingham 2-26 all bowled well.

Langley 2nd XI continued their improved form with an impressive away win at Bredbury.

Bredbury batted first and despite losing an early wicket they hit 250-5. The hosts hit 100 off the last 10 overs as the Langley fielding fell apart. Despite this the Langley batsman composed themselves and knocked off the runs.
