AFAT H E R - O F - FIVE shouted and swore at police and hospital staff in a drunken rage, a court heard.

Robert Mark Avery had been celebrating passing a module of a psychology course with friends at his home on Coare Street in Macclesfield when police received reports of disturbance at the property.

Prosecutor Sonia Alford told the court that when officers arrived and asked to come inside the ‘extremely drunk’ defendant became ‘very aggressive’ and started swearing.

The 50-year-old continued to be aggressive as the police started to leave and he was then arrested, Stockport Magistrates Court heard.

Avery was taken to Macclesfield General Hospital with a cut to his head and continued to shout and swear, saying he was ‘being held against his will’.

Miss Alford told the court: “When officers arrived the defendant was extremely drunk. They explained that they needed to look around the property to make sure everything was ok.

“He began shouting and swearing in their face and saying that they should leave. Officers then left and went back to their police cars.

“As they were walking back to the cars the defendant shouted across to them, ‘what are two police cars doing outside my house?’.

“Several neighbours witnessed this and police arrested him. The defendant had a cut to his head and they took him to Macclesfield General Hospital to have his injury looked at.

“Some patients had to move cubicles because he was shouting. He said he was being held against his will.”

The incident happened on the evening of July 10.

Avery pleaded guilty to two public order offences and was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
