Hospice party a really big hit
CHESHIRE rocked to the sounds of the 80s at the weekend at a special 30th anniversary party for East Cheshire Hospice.
The trip back in time – featuring music from the tribute band Wild Boys – was the fun highlight of the summer for more than 400 people who grooved to the tunes in the beautiful surroundings of Gawsworth Hall.
Crowds enjoyed picnics all afternoon before the music began in the early evening with a string of hits from golden oldies such as Duran Duran, Wham! and Spandau Ballet.
And there was even a surprise in store for the crowd with a special anniversary cake.
The cake, featuring a giant ‘dancing’ yellow sunflower – the emblem of the Hospice – was made by award-winning Oldham cake maker, Suzanne Thorp.
The cake was cut by the new Hospice chief executive, Karyn Johnston, and shared out among guests in the Hospice marquee.
East Cheshire Hospice staff got into the 80s theme with their specially designed t-shirts for the occasion.
Hospice events man- ager, Jo Boyd, said: “The evening was a very special, one-off event full of fun, great music and lots of laughter to mark our 30th celebration.
“We were really delighted at the excellent turn-out with many people really getting into the 80s vibe.
“Our thanks to everyone who came along to make it a very special occasion”.
