- JON MACPHERSON

MACCLESFIELD College have teamed up with the town’s football club for their return to the Football League.

The partnership will see the college feature on the back of the Silkmen’s first team kit for all League Two games, on a pitch side advertising board and in each edition of the club’s match day programme.

Macclesfield Town have also given the college ten under-25 season tickets to be awarded to students.

Announcement of the partnership comes after the club held a careers event at Macclesfield College where visitors had the chance to be pictured with the Vanarama National League trophy.

The club has returned to the Football League following a six-year exile after being promoted as champions of the National League last season.

Rachel Kay, principal and chief executive of Macclesfield College, said it is an ‘exciting’ time for the Silkmen and they are ‘delighted’ with the new partnership.

She said: “Both Macclesfield College and Macclesfield Town Football Club are starting a new chapter this August and we’re both on an upward curve.

“It’s brilliant to see the town’s football team doing so well on the pitch and our new partnership will help give the college even more exposure.

“We’re hoping the team have another great season and a really good run in the FA Cup would give Macclesfield some great promotion.

“Here at Macclesfield College we’re always looking at ways in which we can support, promote and work with local organisations, businesses and communities and we’re looking forward to our relationship with Macclesfield Town growing and flourishing in the coming months.”

Macclesfield Town bosses said it will be a ‘successful’ partnership and be of ‘great benefit to both parties’.

A spokesperson said: “We’re so pleased to be able to announce this partnership with Macclesfield College.

“It’s so important for us to partner with successful organisations and this partnership with the go-to place for school leavers and adult learners gives us just that.”
