Half marathon event still open for entries

-

IT’S not too late for runners in fine form to enter the Macclesfield Half Marathon and 5K on Sunday, September 23.

Experienced runners capable of the half marathon will be well prepared by months of regular running – it’s not a good idea for beginners to start training now!

But like Jennie Martin, runners may have been putting off entering for a range of reasons.

Jennie is running the Macclesfield half marathon for the first time this year as it was a present for her 40th birthday.

She said: “I may have been too scared to enter it for myself. Having moved to Macclesfield three years ago, I have realised there is no avoiding the hills when out for a run.

“I’m hoping the hills I have done during my training will help me on the day!”

Those who have completed a 5k or 10k event and have trained regularly may be ready to move up in distance.

Charlotte Wilson (47 years young) signed up for her first half marathon to challenge herself and said: “I’ve completed regular 5k and 10k runs and been thinking about the half for the last few years – it was the group Harriers training runs every month that finally gave me the push and confidence to finally sign up.

“Now I’m wondering if I could ever run a marathon!”

David Wilson has also been taking part in the group training runs to prepare himself, and to be able to support wife Charlotte.

“Being over 45, over 6ft 6, 17 stone, with two knee operations behind me and genetically high cholesterol – I honestly thought a half marathon was simply beyond me, but I want to prove to myself and to my kids especially that so much can be achieved if you work hard and be focused towards a goal.”

Completing a half marathon is a tremendous achievement.

After 13.1 miles, hearing the cheers and seeing the time clock at the end of Macclesfield athletics track will be an emotional experience wherever you finish in the field.

All half marathon and 5K finishers will receive a medal and goody bag.

The 2018 Macclesfield Half Marathon, 5K and Fun Run will take place on Sunday, September 23.

See www.macc-half.co. uk for full details and online entries.

Entry on the day will be possible if the race is not full.
