Food specialists raise money for their charity of the year
AFOOD logistics firm has chosen its charity of the year. Staff from Direct Food Ingredients, in Macclesfield, on Waters Green, will now take on a number of challenges and activities to raise money for children’s charity, The Joshua Tree.
And employees have already started work to raise awareness of the cause.
Alongside staff from the charity, a team led by Tracey Aynsley, who works at Direct Foods, took part in the Northwich River Festival Dragon Boat race.
The brave group claimed fifth place out of a field of 15 teams.
Following this huge effort, staff then tackled the gruelling Tough Mudder 5k, which they completed at Heaton Park in Manchester.
Cath Hough, from Direct Food Ingredients, said she was proud of the effort staff at the company were making for such a worthwhile cause.
She said: “Here at Direct Food Ingredients, our team always go the extra mile to show they care about even the smallest of details, so it was no surprise when they embarked on these challenges to support such a welldeserving charity.
“On behalf of everyone from Direct Food Ingredients, we would like to thank the generous people who donated to support The Joshua Tree, and a huge well done to the dedicated group who took part.”
Cath added: “I know the team is committed to supporting our charity of the year, and I can’t wait to see what challenges they set their minds to next.”
The Joshua Tree supports children and their families across the North West who are living with the life-changing effects of childhood cancers.
They help ensure they receive the best academic, social and emotional support, both in and out of school.
Pippa Watson-Peck, of The Joshua Tree, said they really appreciate the support.
She said: “We are immensely proud to be chosen as the charity of the year for Direct food Ingredients and it comes during a time of great excitement for the charity as we embark upon the development of a purpose-built support centre in Sandiway.
“The support centre, to be completed next year, will continue to provide free practical, emotional and social support to children with cancer and their family and friends helping to ensure that life remains as normal as possible during an incredibly traumatic time.”
