Bowling alley bids for life-saving gear

- DOMINIC SMITHERS

ATEN-PIN bowling complex is raising money for equipment that could save someone’s life during a cardiac arrest.

Superbowl UK, based at Lyme Green Business Park, in Macclesfield, is holding a charity night to raise funds for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

On the day people will be able to play a variety of bowling games, with all the money going to fund the defibrillators.

In order to buy the lifesaving piece of kit the firm has to reach its target of £1,500.

Once they have enough money the equipment will be stored at the arcade in case of emergency.

As well as buying a defibrillator however, Superbowl UK are also using the event to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice, to support their work in caring for people suffering from life-limiting ill- nesses.

The company has said they haven’t set themselves a target but are hoping people will be able to give as much as possible to support the two charities.

Kelly Havard, centre manager at Superbowl UK Macclesfield said the company is glad to be able to support two charities which care for local residents so well.

She said: “We are thrilled to be running our bowling charity event in aid of AED Donate and East Cheshire Hospice. These are two charities that work tirelessly to look after people within our community.

“Local residents have always supported Superbowl UK and we see this as an opportunity to bring people together for the benefit of their own community.”

As well as the cash being raised at the charity evening, the director of Superbowl UK, Kate Quaintance- Blackford, has already committed to donating £250 to give the pot a boost.

Kate Bowmar, corporate fundraiser at East Cheshire Hospice said the charity was over the moon to receive the support, especially when they rely so heavily on the ‘generosity’ of people in Macclesfield.

She said: “It’s fantastic that Superbowl UK are fundraising for East Cheshire Hospice.

“As a hospice, we receive only 15 per cent of our funds from the NHS and rely massively on the kind generosity of our local community to help raise the £7,500 needed a day.
