Rossendale Trust tenants put on their running shoes to get fit
STAFF and tenants at the Rossendale Trust have been lacing up their running shoes and getting fit.
A band of brave runners from the Sutton-based centre are preparing to take on the ‘Couch to 5k’, run as part of the of the biggest running event in Macclesfield, the ‘Macc-half marathon and fun run’.
Though many have not run before they have all taken it as a challenge to get themselves fit and active ahead of the September event and take part in a 5k run.
But as well as challenging themselves to get outdoors and try something new, the team are also using the event, which is organised by Macclesfield Harriers, as an opportunity to raise money for one of Rossendale Trust’s schemes. The 2017 the race donated over £10,000 to East Cheshire Hospice, The Rossendale Trust and Just Drop-In.
Each member will donate a portion of their entry fee to support the Trust’s WorkTaste scheme, enabling the people cared for by the Trust to get a taste of work through supported employment placements.
Karl Downing PR, media and fundraising officer at the Trust, said he is excited for the big day and that it has been a great way of getting tenants involved with staff. She said: “The Rossendale ‘Couch to 5k’ team are doing really well. We are all enjoying the fact that the tenants with learning disabilities have joined us for both the training and for the big event in September.
She added: “Anyone who would like to join our team will be very welcome! Contact me at karl.downing@ rossendaletrust.org.”
