Down to the nitty gritty of league rugby
CLUBMAN
NATIONAL Two North and the start of another season of rugby beckons come 3pm Saturday with a difficult trip to the South Leicester club who always provide stern opposition at their Wigston Magna HQ, and this after an unsuccessful trip to Hare Lane where Chester took the honours in the semifinal of the Cheshire Cup last weekend with a hefty 40-7 victory.
Now down to the nitty gritty of league rugby for the foreseeable future, and hopefully the Macclesfield squad will be right up there with the other squads in Two North.
I did not make the trip to Chester as I had other things on my mind, notably at Wembley where my home town club came second best to a smart Catalans outfit in the Challenge Cup – Ah well, you can’t win them all and there is always the Super 8s to now look forward to before the season closes and another begins for MRUFC – watch this space.
The Wembley result will, however, give the game in France a much needed shot in the arm despite my woes.
The game at Chester was perhaps not as one sided as the scoreline might suggest but two yellow cards, followed by the inevitable red, meant that Macclesfield played out a good part of the game a man light.
But at least it means that we can now concentrate on National Two North which, with the new clubs for this season, will be a highly competitive league and it will require all the support from the touchline that the Macclesfield supporters can give.
And for your information, the following are the home games at Priory Park for September and early October:
