Volunteer hangs up collection tin after raising £50k

- ALEX SCAPENS

A VOLUNTEER will hang up her collection tin after 16 years of fundraising in which she has helped collect an estimated total of £50,000.

Midge Mayers, from Bollington, has been involved with a number of worthy causes in this time and her last event was a coffee morning in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

But now she will step down from her voluntary work to spend more time with her family.

Other charities to have benefited from Midge’s work are East Cheshire Hospice, Alzheimer’s Society and Bollington First Responders.

She said: “I have very mixed emotions about my last fundraising event but I know that we wanted to make it a huge success.

“I have truly enjoyed my fundraising over the years and have met some wonderful people along the way.

“It will be nice to spend more time with family now and it will also be nice to wake up without wondering where the next raffle prize is coming from.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity over the years.”

Leah Goodhind, from the BHF, said: “I can’t thank Midge enough for her fundraising efforts during that time. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her.”

The BHF is looking for volunteers, anyone interested can call Leah on 07500 057015.
