THERE was a big return for Macclesfield Boys’ Boxing Club recently as young Lucas Earle was back in action as he competed on a Long Lane ABC Show in Liverpool.

It was his first fight back in the ring since contracting glandular fever which wiped him out fitness wise and although he was not 100 per cent back to his best it was decided to get him out against Danny Pye from Knowsley Vale ABC.

Pye had a few advantages due to his age and experience, but Earle is used to giving that away to the boxers he trains with in the gym so he decided to take the bout.

The show made for a good atmosphere and as the bell rang for round one, both lads started well by exchanging plenty of blows, with some hitting home and some hitting the gloves, but it was basically an even round with both kids showing great skill.

In round two Earle was beginning to tire a bit and wasn’t as quick to retaliate, so this round gave Pye the edge.

In round three Earle had been instructed to give it his all if he wanted to win but as Pye came out strong, Earle kept with him and gave as good as he got but eventually ended up in the corner covering up without giving anything in return, so this prompted the referee to step in with an eight count.

Earle was tired out on his feet but managed to see the contest through to the end but there was no doubt who had won as Pye took victory in a great contest that showed us that Earle needs to work a bit harder in the gym, but both boxers deserve credit for their performances in an exciting fight.
