Young Rascals ready for TV fame

- ALEX SCAPENS

THESE little faces are going to become instantly recognisable – as they have been selected to appear in an advert promoting Britain’s Got Talent.

Diddy Rascals street dance group meet twice a week at Any Time Fitness, in Macclesfield, and members range in age from five to seven.

Their teacher sent a video audition into the ITV show, fronted by Simon Cowell, and they were asked to try out in person on Saturday (December 8).

But producers were so impressed that they asked the group to come in early to be videoed and this footage will make up part of the show’s advert to be screened for three months next year.

Keri Davies, 34, is an assistant for the group and her daughter Amelia is the youngest member.

She said: “Every time the advert comes on to promote it they will be on it. This is a real feather in the cap as there are thousands of entrants.

“I think they were chosen because they are small, look really eye catching as they all wear the same outfit and are all really good – especially for their age.

“The older ones are beside themselves with excitement as they watch Britain’s Got Talent, there’s a lot of squealing all the time and they hope to meet Simon Cowell.”

Initially a video was sent in of the Diddy Rascals performing at a competition.

They now hope to be successful again and get through to the live on stage auditions in front of the panel of judges early next year.

The routine they will perform is to a medley of songs including Nicki Minaj and Stormzy.

Filming of the advert will take place at a secret location that will only be revealed to the group a couple of days before.

Keri said: “We are all super excited and it has happened all at once, but at that age I don’t think they realise what an opportunity it is.

“But they are all really well behaved. It is hard for them as the routines are four-and-a-half minutes and constant, but they love it so it’s not hard to get them to do it.”

Diddy Rascals meet at Anytime Fitness, on Duke Street, on Tuesdays from 5.45pm to 6.45pm and Fridays from 5pm to 6pm.
