Bel’s sights set on Euro Tour place

- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

PRESTBURY Golf Club’s young star Bel Wardle has a superb record of success in county, national and international competitions during a magnificent junior career which saw her awarded a golf scholarship at Los Angeles University.

But she made a major decision not to take this up to try a new and exciting path in golf.

Bel said: “I realised that I wanted to concentrate on my golf full time and not continue on with academics as golf is my passion!

“I am still an amateur and I am not rushing into the professional ranks and completed the pre-qualifying stage of the LET in Morocco where I finished in sixth place and had the lowest round of the week with a fourunder-par 68 which I began with four consecutive birdies to make it through for the final qualifying rounds again in Morocco.

“In the short term my next aim is final qualifying for the Ladies European Tour in December but really my long term plans depend on whether I gain my full tour card, but I do intend to go to LPGA Tour School next year.”
