Kennedy’s relishing ‘mission impossible’

-

NEW Macclesfield Town first team coach Mark Kennedy says he is excited by the challenge ahead after joining the club.

Kennedy had a playing career that spanned two decades, turning out for the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Wolves and Crystal Palace during that time.

He was also capped 34 times by Republic of Ireland before retiring in 2012, and he’s now looking forward to working alongside Macc boss Sol Campbell.

“It’s a unique opportunity in terms of the manager coming here as he’s an iconic figure in football. I admired him for taking the challenge and it’s a huge challenge for myself to be part of that,” he said. “I’ve lived in the area for a long time and followed the club from the outside looking in. It’s a good opportunity for everyone involved and one I’m looking forward to. I didn’t know what to expect when I arrived, but after speaking to the manager and Danny Whitaker it’s clear we have a nice group of lads here and some great players, so it’s an exciting time.

“Me and Sol are fairly aligned in how we see the game being played but ultimately because of where we are, the most important thing is winning games and staying in the league.

“Life is all about stretching yourself and facing challenges, and that’s something I’ve learned throughout my career. This is no different.

“I haven’t come here thinking it’s mission impossible, but because of the appeal of the club and the manager involved, it’s something I didn’t want to miss out on.”
