Teen cyclist dies after horror crash

ATEENAGE boy has died in hospital following an horrific accident with a car while he was riding his bike.

The 13-year-old collided with a silver Dodge Caliber on the Silk Road, Macclesfie­ld town centre, before school on Tuesday morning.

He was airlifted to Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries but sadly died there later that day.

Police have now appealed for witnesses as well as dash cam footage and are offering support to the boy’s family.

It is the fourth fatal road accident in Macclesfie­ld in as many months.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “A 13-year-old boy on a bicycle was in collision with a silver Dodge Caliber. Sadly the cyclist died later in hospital.

“His family are being supported by specialist officers.”

The Silk Road was closed near to the Arighi Bianchi furniture store following the accident, which happened at around 8.15am.

An Air Ambulance took the teenager to hospital, where medical staff were put on alert as to the seriousnes­s of his condition.

Police collision investigat­ors inspected the scene and the road was reopened on Tuesday afternoon.

Other fatal road accidents have happened on Congleton Road, Fence Avenue, and most recently the A537 Chelford Road.

Councillor Nick Mannion, councillor for Macclesfie­ld West and Ivy ward, said: “Any accident is tragic and my thoughts are with the boy’s family.

Macclesfie­ld Town FC tweeted: “We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family of the teenage boy who was involved in a tragic accident on the Silk Road this morning.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this devastatin­g news.”
