New Prestbury captain Margaret loving

PRESTBURY Golf Club’s new Lady Captain, Margaret Simons is a relative newcomer to golf, but is honoured to be chosen for her exciting role at the club in 2019.

Margaret lives just two minutes drive from the club and her bungalow backs onto the course by the 11th green. After starting golf ten years ago she joined Prestbury in 2010 begining a whole new chapter in her life after retiring from work as a community pharmacist for 22 years.

Margaret said: “From the outset of joining Prestbury I was made to feel very welcome by all of the ladies and the warmth and friendship has been ongoing throughout my whole membership.

“I am so lucky to be on the doorstep of this wonderful traditiona­l members’ club with a challengin­g course that I never tire of playing.

“The social life in the club is very active and we are supported by excellent catering facilities. Currently the club is undergoing a major refurbishm­ent for all members to enjoy.

“We have a very buoyant ladies section who are very welcoming to not only establishe­d golfers but also complete beginners who feel ready to embrace the game.

“I attained my best handicap of 18 in 2018 but it is now 19. During the season I play probably three times a week, sometimes four, playing in opens, ladies and mixed competitio­ns.

“My other hobbies are walking and doing three keep fit classes a week at Carla Gilder Fitness.

“I am also a fan of Manchester United having being brought up as a ‘red’ in a Catholic family of five brothers and sisters. Many years ago when my father had a box at Old Trafford, I went to many of the matches,
