Duo in to bolster Silkmen’s ranks
MACCLESFIELD Town have improved their chances in the battle against relegation after bolstering their squad with two new signings this week.
Young defender Zak Jules and experienced full-back Stelios Demetriou, a Cypriot international, have both joined the club on deals until the end of the season.
Jules is a Scottish international at every level between U17 and U21, and also came through the academy ranks at Championship side Reading.
During his time at Reading, he also had loan spells at Hemel Hempstead Town, Braintree Town and Scottish side Motherwell.
Jules signed a two year contract at League One side Shrewsbury Town in 2017, and then agreed a loan deal with Chesterfield.
Loan spells at Port Vale and Barnet then took place earlier this year, before being released by Shrewsbury and now signing for Macclesfield.
Fellow new recruit Demetriou came through the youth ranks at Apollon Limassol, before turning out for Akritas Chlorakas, Ermis Aradippou and Bulgarian side, Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
He then headed back to Aradippou, where he played a key role in helping them left the Cypriot Super Cup back in 2014.
The full-back spent a brief period with Swedish side Akropolis IF, before returning to his homeland to enjoy a two year spell at Doxa Katokopias.
A move to Scottish Championship side St Mirren followed and he went on to make 25 appearance in their titlewinning season.
He later signed for fellow Scottish side Ross County last summer, before being released earlier this month after making eight appearances.
He has joined the club until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The transfer window is set to shut on Thursday evening, and Campbell has refused to rule out any more additions before it closes.
“I’m not going to say, because last time I nearly got a couple of players and they’ve gone, for whatever reason,” he said.
“I’d rather just say that we’re looking around and if something can happen and it actually goes through, then we will be really happy.”
The arrival of Jules and Demetriou means that Campbell has now made five signings since he was appointed as manager, with Adam Dawson, Enoch Andoh and Emmanuel Idem also joining the club over the past month.
