Emotional messages as shrine grows at tragic site

-

DOZENS of emotional messages and floral tributes have been placed at the scene of the tragic accident.

A shrine to Tyler Wolstenholme, 13, sprang up at the junction of the Silk Road and Brook Street to reflect the ‘outpouring of grief’ his death has caused.

Also placed there were photographs of Tyler with his friends, balloons, Manchester United scarves and boxes of Jaffa Cakes and Oreos.

One tribute said: “Not a day went by when you didn’t make me laugh. I’ll miss you Tyler and will never forget you. I love you.”

Following the accident nearby St Paul’s Church opened its doors for two evenings to assist those seeking solace after what they described as ‘an incredible outpouring of grief’.

The church invited people to ‘reflect and remember Tyler, share memories, light a candle or simply sit quietly’.

Those who live and work close to the scene of the accident, which happened at 8.13am, said the whole community was shocked and upset by events.

Jeanette Hatton, 53, of Brook Street, said: “All out hearts go out to the family and friends of Tyler.

“When I heard I was shocked and upset. He was just a lad on his way to school and then this awful thing happened.

“It’s a very busy junction, especially at that time of the day.”

Muhammad Rauf who runs the Regio Emiia Convenience Store, on Brook Street, said: “I was working that morning and saw the police and ambulance vehicles arriving.

“It was later that day when a customer said a young boy had died. It is such a terrible thing and my heart goes out to his family.

“It is a shock for the whole community.”
