Win against Wharfedale the priority

- CLUBMAN COLUMN

THE Winter weather prevented any games at Priory Park last weekend so it was all hands to the start of the Six Nations Tournament with a beer in front of the fire on a cold Macc afternoon last Saturday.

If you are England supporters it was an excellent start to the campaign with a convincing victory over, in many eyes, the pre campaign favourites – Ireland – and to score no less than 32 points ‘on the road’ was a great way to set up the stall for the remaining games starting at Twickenham on Sunday when France come visiting – kick off 3pm.

In the other games Wales recorded a good ‘W’ in Paris and Scotland beat a gritty Italian side North of the border so all in all for ‘Clubman’ despite lack of Macclesfield games a good afternoon made all the better by a convincing RL victory for The Wire in beating Leeds Rhinos in the first Super League weekend.

All we need now is for our Cricketers to get over their horror show in Antigua for the Third and final Test Match starting on Saturday – one can but hope.

Around Two North last Saturday only two games were played due to the inclement weather and they were at Leicester Lions where visiting Otley (who undid us last time out) won 30-14 to maintain their high placing in the table and at Peterborough Lions – struggling, like us, to come to terms with this league – who lost out to Fylde 38-7 a result that keeps the Lancashire side in second spot in the table just above Chester so it does mean that the first ‘reserve’ weekend will now be taken up by those postponed games.

This is likely to be Saturday 23 February but I will confirm when official.

That Macclesfield must get results in the next few games is now becoming ever more essential if we are to survive at National Two level and you – as supporters – can assist by being on the touchline with good voice come 3pm this Saturday when Yorkshire rivals Wharfedale come visiting Priory Park.

That’s it sadly for this week as a lack of Rugby information leaves me with little else to say in the hope of a return to winning ways on Saturday. Fixtures for Saturday 9 February:1st XV v Wharfedale – Home – 3pm 2nd XV v Chester – Home 3rd XV v Kendal 2 – Away 4th XV v Congleton 2 – Away
