Mum’s the word in online advice for new parents

- ALEX SCAPENS

AMUM has launched her own website to provide the advice and support for parents that she once struggled to find.

Hayley Corr, 38, from Broken Cross, moved back to Macclesfield after the birth of her second child, Joshua, who is now one.

She had been living and working in London as a lawyer but, upon becoming a parent far away from where she grew up, realised she lacked local knowledge and a support network.

So back in Macclesfield she has launched East Cheshire Mumbler, to provide local advice and info to mums and dads on all things parent and child related.

Hayley said: “When I had my daughter we lived down south.

“I didn’t have a big support network or lots of local knowledge, particularly when it came to things that are suitable for babies or children.

“I made a few friends after doing antenatal classes and the more I spoke to other parents, the more it became clear that they all wanted the same things as I did.

“These included up-todate information of what’s on locally, recommendations from local parents, healthcare information and most of all, friends.

“So, after two years of being frustrated at having to search for information in so many different places, I decided to remedy this and to help build a parenting community.”

East Cheshire Mumbler went live on December 1 and attracted 3,500 visits in its first month.

It covers such things as classes, groups, days out, support services, parties and child friendly eating. There is also a Facebook chat group.

Hayley, who also lives with her firefighter husband Mark and daughter Alannah, two, is now pregnant with their third child.

She said: “There are national sites but Mumbler is different in that it’s hyper local - its sole focus is East Cheshire and everyone who uses and visits the site is based in and around East Cheshire. I work hard to try and make sure the information on the site is up to date and relevant to around here and get out and about with the little ones to try out for myself the places or classes so I can tell my Mumblers about them with the benefit of experience.

“This parenting lark is hard enough as it is so I am confident that East Cheshire Mumbler will make the whole thing slightly easier.”
