Could you be a ‘Sunday sorter’at the hospice shop?
A NEW role for all ages is promised with lots of buzz and fun for East Cheshire Hospice volunteers.
The hospice needs help for a few hours with their new ‘Sunday Sorting’ sessions at their Thornton Square charity shop which regularly receives all kinds of donations from clothes and bric-a-brac to toys and jewellery.
The overwhelming success of the Macclesfield shop means that staff have little time to cope with sorting donations during the week so special three-hour long Sunday sessions are being organised for the first time.
Volunteer services co-ordinator, Helena Smith said: “During the week, our shops need to be customer-focussed so we struggle to find the time to go through our donations. We want to create some buzzy, happy fun Sunday sessions with the radio on when we gets lots of work done but can also promise lots of tea and chat.”
The hospice works with volunteers 365 days of the year – on the wards, on reception, at events and with fundraising but this is the first time they have called specifically for weekend roles.
“Jobs will include opening and sorting through bags, sorting the library of books and CDs, stock rotation, pricing goods and maybe a bit of light cleaning,” said Helena. “Since it’s a drop in role, we are minimizing training requirements, so we are simplifying jobs and will make sure people can just turn up and get stuck in to helping straight away.”
The volunteers are needed by the end of the month and they may be required on a regular basis thereafter, but Helena is unsure how often their help will be needed.
The sessions will begin at 10am.
“We’d particularly like to welcome younger people to come along and thought it might be helpful for those looking for volunteering opportunities for such things as the Duke of Edinburgh award
“And maybe it’s something families might fancy doing together for a few hours,” said Helena.
“We are very happy to have anyone who just wants something practical and useful to do.”
