Raising cash snow problem for cool pupils

- ALEX SCAPENS

WITH wintry weather hitting Macclesfield in recent weeks it was an apt time for pupils to hand over funds raised from their charity snowman sprint.

Children in Years Seven and Eight at All Hallows College had collected £1,1516 from the event in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.

It took place during a PE lesson and youngsters were able to buy a snowman hat to run in.

It was a huge collective effort but three students were rewarded with treats including an Amazon voucher for raising particularly impressive amounts.

Nathaniel Johnson collected a total of £200, while Reuben Frodsham and Annabel Swainston each managed £50.

After the event Nathaniel said: “I was really happy that I could raise so much money for the East Cheshire Hospice, as it is a very important place to my family because my Nana died there.”

Sophie Thomason, head of Year Seven and PE, co-ordinated the event with East Cheshire Hospice.

She said: “Our students always do themselves, and All Hallows, proud when asked to show compassion for others.

“They had great fun completing the Snowman Sprint and raised a lot of money in the process.”

All Hallows, on Brooklands Avenue, has been raising money for the hospice for 16 years and to date the total stands at a whopping £17,843.

Lisa Ball, a community fundraiser for the hospice and ex-All Hallows pupil, said: “We only receive 17 per cent of our funding from the government meaning we need to raise over £7,500 every single day to care for those suffering with life limiting illnesses, as well as their families.

“Without the support from our local community the hospice simply wouldn’t be open and we believe that All Hallows Catholic College is one of the most compassionate and charitable schools in Cheshire East.

“We are eternally grateful for the support from the staff, pupils and families of All Hallows Catholic College.”
