CONGLETON 2ND ........ 32 MACCLESFIELD 4TH...56

considered the man of the match with a hat trick.

Everyone in the side contributed in an excellent fashion.

Jim Welch was dominating the line outs catching beautifully and feeding scrum half Andrew Foster with quick and clean ball.

Welch’s lock partner Jim Leyton received an early ufortunate head cut which bled profusely so he took no further part.

This was scant consolation to Congleton because his replacement Lewis Smith made a huge impact, with several bullock belligerent runs with the ball in hand.

The back row Zane Brisbane, Patrick Evra and Carl ‘Mad dog’ Downs tackled solidly and turning over the home side’s possession many times.

Sam Bancroft, another off the bench had an enormous incursion into the opposition territory to score a wonderful solo try.

Another’s score by Richard Hogg at the base of a driving scrum completed Macclesfield’s afternoon. Unfortunately, due to illness skipper Ryan Brown was absent so Jeremy Bostock the Vice captain was in charge.

He was delighted at the team scoring over half a century but wasn’t complacent.

He knows the side is on the right track and likes the mixture of veteran players like Simon Street and Nick Smith coaxing the best out of youngsters like Ben Hegginbotham, Alfie Wright, Reese Weatherspoon, Michael Moore and Dave Parsons.

Both Bostock and Brown are aware there’s still a lot of development for the team and want to further improve to finish off the season on a high achieving their full potential.

The togetherness of the fourth team is reflected in the social nature.

Jason Walker is in charge of organising the end of season tour to Gibraltar in April when 42 players and supporters will play a match there and enjoy great bonding together.
