Cole goal thanks to ace Cole

-

MACCLESFIELD Town midfielder Reece Cole says learning tips from football legend Andy Cole helped him keep his composure and score a stoppage time equaliser in the 3-3 draw against Crewe Alexandra.

Cole arrived at the Moss Rose on loan from Championship side Brentford last month, and netted his first goal for the club during Saturday’s game. He was delighted to contribute in the fixture, and is hoping that the team can kick on from here and start to win more games.

“I had a chance in the last game and it got blocked on the line, so when the ball fell to me this time it was great to see it go in,” he said.

“I did some shooting practice with Andy Cole throughout the week and it’s paid off. I didn’t know what to do when I scored. My hamstring was cramping up and I wanted to run over to my family and girlfriend, but I also wanted to run over to the fans on the other side!

“I was happy to get the point and the goal. We went a goal down early doors which isn’t what you want, but the boys dug in and stuck with our style of play of passing it out from the back.

“We kept on pushing, and the manager talks to us about how you don’t play 90 minutes anymore, it’s more so 95, 96, 97 these days, so we didn’t give up and it was great to get a point.

“The fans were our 12th man again. The atmosphere was unreal and they kept us going until the end, so that was really good.

“I’ve only been here a few weeks but I’ve been really happy, and I want to make sure I can score as many goals and assists as possible.”
