Careless motorists drive residents parking mad

- ALEX SCAPENS

INCONSIDER AT E parking is something that always gets people hot under the collar - and it seems, if anything, standards are getting worse in Macclesfield.

Police have been targeting offenders who cause obstruction with a policy of warning notices for first time offenders, then a fine

and eventually the threat of their car being seized.

And officers have been sharing some of the worst examples on social media.

Much of the work centres around schools during drop off and pick up time - but it is taking place all over the Macclesfield area and on one occasion police even stumbled across horses left tethered on the street.

Facebook posts have attracted a number of annoyed comments with some saying that, potentially, people’s lives are being put at risk.

Sandra Hobbs said: “There’s so much bad parking around. Parked on pavements, parked up to junctions, parked so that driver and pedestrian visibility is virtually nil.

“Nothing is done about it and it’s dangerous and thoughtless.”

Kate Collins I don’t understand why people park on pavements. Can’t they park in the car parks provided like most other people. Or are they too important?”

Rebecca Cairns said: “Should come up Pine Road some time, it’s an accident waiting to happen! Between the parked cars at the entrance to the road, so close you are on the wrong side of the road trying to pull out onto higher fence, to people parked either side of the street and cars can barely get through.

“God help a resident if the emergency services needed to get though!

And Darren Lilley said: “Every day it’s like that always the same people, risking kids lives to save a few minutes total morons.”

In Hurdsfield PCSOs have done leaflet drops in hotspot areas such as Brocklehurst Avenue.

And pupils have also been handing out advisory notices near schools.

Other area that where parking is a problem include Park Lane and London Road South, in Poynton, and Keats Drive, in Upton Priory.

A police spokesman said: “Please consider where your parking your car. Parking on a junction is an offence even on a back road - if you are unsure revise the highway code.”
