Macclesfield Express backs bid for new hospital facility
THE Macclesfield Express is supporting the Christie in its bid to bring world-class cancer care to our town.
The internationally renowned Christie plans to open a hospital in Macclesfield that would have 40,000 patient visits annually.
But to turn this into a reality it needs to raise £23million.
Now it’s time for action and everyone can do their bit to help raise the necessary money with events, sponsored activities or anything else they can think of.
It is hoped the centre will open in summer 2021 in the grounds of Macclesfield District General Hospital, and significantly reduce journey times for 1,500 patients a year.
Treatment offered would include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, palliative and outpatient care and clinical trials would also be carried out.
But all this needs your help and residents are being asked to take part in fundraising to turn these plans into reality.
Schools can request a Christie Bear fundraising packs or fundraising challenge guides.
Workplaces can choose the Christie as their charity of the year, set up payroll giving or become our charity partner and groups can have a Cuppa for The Christie.
Sporty types can run, swim, walk or cycle and if you are feeling lucky, there is even a Christie lottery for a chance to win £25,000!
Planning permission for the centre is also needed, but if it proceeds as planned it will have 40,000 patient visits annually.
Among staff employed there will be dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, radiographers, nurses, dementia and social care specialists.
This is a once-in-ageneration chance to bring facilities to Macclesfield that would greatly benefit local people and their families. Let’s seize it with both hands.
