High-flying legal eagle comes in to land for his retirement
THE founder of a well-known solicitors firm has retired after almost three decades as a high-flying legal eagle.
Rob Thorneycroft set up the first branch of Thorneycroft Solicitors in 1990 and it has since grown into one of the largest law firms in the north west.
As well as having a headquarters on Bridge Street, Macclesfield, the firm also has offices in Buxton, Whaley Bridge and Holmes Chapel.
Over the last 20 years Rob, who is 60 and turns 61 on Friday, July 19, has been joined on the Thorneycroft board by managing director Rachel Stow, financial director Sue Carnwell and directors Mark Belfield and Nicola Dickinson.
He says he looks back on his time there with pride at how the business has grown and developed specialist areas including brain and spinal injury cases.
Rob said: “I have decided that the time has now come to retire.
“Never one to knowingly over stay my welcome it is nonetheless with a heavy heart that I say farewell to my colleagues old and new.
“I believe the firm is in safe hands and well equipped for the future.”
Rob is also well known in Macclesfield sporting circles, playing squash for Prestbury, being president of Prestbury Cricket Club and a member of Prestbury Golf Club.
But will he spend time lowering his handicap or perfecting his batting technique?
He said: “I’m not sure about that, my family may well have ideas about me helping them a little more in their ventures.”
