Woodford woe for Prestbury

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY hosted local rivals Woodford at the weekend with both teams looking for their second win of the season.

Skipper Steve Oldfield won the toss for the home side and decided to bat, but it was not the best start when opener George Brindley was out for 0.

Ben Mckeever was joined by Oldfield and with built a steady 27 partnership before the latter was out caught, for 15, one of nine players to be out that way in the Prestbury innings.

Aqeel Ahmed came into bat and put on 20 runs with Mckeever, who fell for 13.

It was 48 for 3 off 13 overs, Ahmed and new batsman Harry Bateman taking the score on to 88 before Ahmed was caught for 27.

Max Cowling Jones was out for 0, and Bateman was out for 16, and soon Marolia followed for 5 – all finding getting the ball down on the ground.

Carl Southan, playing his first game of the season, looked more comfortable and hit a couple of nice fours but fell again, caught for 9.

He and Finlay Calder took the score onto 121 but Calder was out for 18 and when the score was 140 Rakesh Alex was out for 0, leaving Yassin Khan 11 not out. It meant 140 all out off 34 overs.

In reply, Woodford’s openers raced to 46 but Marolia had J Clinch LBW for 4 but D Clinch and T Metcalfe took the score

onto 74 off 15 overs.

Alex had Clinch caught by Oldfield for 22, but Woodford pushed on and the next wicket didn’t fall until the score was 111 when R Metcalfe was caught by wicket keeper Ahmed for 30.

At 129 Prestbury had more success with Gilliatt caught and bowled by Marolia for 12, and at 133 Alex got his second wicket, that of Marsden, caught by Southan.

With one more run added, T Metcalfe was out for a fine 58, caught Ahmed, but Walker and Elms saw Woodford home in the 35th over.

Prestbury battle on and go to Wilmslow next week. The seconds are on a roll, winning at Styal, made 151 for 9, by five runs,

Ridley Partridge on seconds debut at 14 got two wickets and 26 runs, Alex Insley four wickets and Andy Scott in the Prestbury innings struck 54 runs.

The under 15s won the High Peak League group and the cup final – well done to the players, coach Adam Partridge and his support team of parents.
