Fiacre targets less stress on Silkmen return

FIACRE Kelleher says it feels like he is back home after joining Macclesfield Town on a permanent basis.

The defender spent last season on loan at the Moss Rose from Oxford United, and he’s excited to kick on after signing a one-year deal.

“Being here last season it feels a bit like home, so it’s nice to come back. I get on really well with everybody here – the fans, the players – and it just felt right, so I’m delighted to be back,” he told the club’s official website.

“I definitely came on from the start of the season. I ended playing a lot of games, and with that comes a lot more experience.

“I definitely improved and hopefully this year I can kick on and help Macc, and hopefully we don’t have to have that fight again – we can kick on up the table a bit.

“My contract ended with Oxford last season, so I went back home to Ireland and from there I was a free agent.

“It was just about getting the deal done - it’s taken a bit of time but I’m delighted to be back now.

“I was hoping Macc would come in for me but sometimes things like that don’t always happen. Once I heard they were interested I was delighted.

“[The fans] have always played a massive role here and hopefully this year we don’t have to give them too much of a heart attack! We can just really kick on I hope.

“We did really well to stay in the league last year. The season’s not started yet so of course we can be optimistic - that’s a good way to be.

“I’m sure when I go to training all the lads will be ready and raring to go and we’ll give it our best again.”
