Prestbury reeled in with ease by Wilmslow

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY made the short journey to Wilmslow at the weekend where the home side comfortably met the visitors’ target of 141.

Prestbury captain Steve Oldfield won the toss and decided to bat but openers Cameron Kirkland and Bryn Thompson didn’t get off to the best possible start.

Kirkland was out lbw for 5, and soon after Thompson was out for 5, bowled.

Two new batsmen, Will Dowd and Oldfield, tried to steady the innings but Dowd was caught and bowled for 6, leaving Prestbury 24-3 off 13 overs.

It soon became 28-4 when Oldfield was caught for 6.

The side welcomed back Tom Livesley – out so far this season with a back injury – but he lasted two overs before being bowled for 3, 33-5.

George Brindley and Aqeel Ahmed took the score to 63 but Brindley was bowled for 9, and seven runs later new batsman Finlay Calder was caught for 6.

Ahmed had watched as wickets fell at the other end but was well supported by Chariag Marolia and the took the score on to 128 before Marolia was bowled for a good 32 in difficult circumstances.

At 136, Ahmed’s innings came to an end but he had faced 70 balls for 42 when he was caught out.

Max Cowling Jones was joined by last man Rekesh Alex but they managed to only put on five runs before Alex was out lbw for 4.

That left Cowling Jones 4 not out as Prestbury finished on 141 all out off 41 overs.

After a lovely tea supplied by Carol Harding, Wilmslow went about the task of getting 142 off 49 overs and the only wicket taken was by Marolia with the score at 113.

The game didn’t last much longer as Wilmslow reached 144-1 off 27 overs, a disappointing game as far as Prestbury were concerned but they battle on as team spirit is good.

The seconds came unstuck against Urmston who made 194 – in reply, Prestbury were all out for 90.

The thirds played Hyde CC at Prestbury and were all out for 97 but special mention to 14-year-old Will Worswick in making 47 on debut in senior cricket for Prestbury.

Hyde knocked off the runs in the 26th over, with three wickets falling, but Ethan Hadfield, another 14-year-old, took his first senior wicket.
