Games washed away in deluge

- CRICKET SIMON GRIFFITHS

MOTHER Nature was up to her old tricks last week! After the mid-week heat the weekend brought a deluge ruling out all cricket for Macclesfield Cricket Club on Saturday and Sunday, leaving the Victoria Road ground under water.

The only cricket played over the weekend involved the Under 19s who on the Friday lost a T20 league game to Bramhall by 29 runs.

Star for the home side was Jack Massey who took five wickets and followed that up with 48 runs with the bat.

Jonny Potts knocked a

useful 37 in the unsuccessful Macclesfield run chase.

Macclesfield will finish joint top of the league but progress to the knockout stage will depend on the result of the final game involving Bramhall’s trip to Toft.

A Toft win will mean Macclesfield and Alderley Edge top the table and Macc will go through on the ‘head to head’ results as they beat Alderley earlier in the season.

However, a Bramhall victory will mean the top place is decided by the three sides respective run rate.

The under 11s have excelled in this years Cheshire Cup as two teams reached the semi final stage.

The Lion beat Grappenhall whereas the Tigers lost to Alderley Edge.

In the final, Alderley triumphed being as the young Macclesfield side just came up short against a strong Alderley opponent.

The under 11s did however win the South Manchester Cricket League, the first time the club has won this competition.

This Saturday sees a triple header against Brooklands.

The first and third teams travel to South Manchester whilst the second team play host. On Sunday the fourth team entertain Elworth.
